Histories found and heard

On this page your will find some interesting stories, either funny, or spooky, of just some nice facts or tales that we ran into during our search.

One of the dramatic stories is the murder of Jan Kempeneers in 1925. By accident we could get hold of the text that was sung on the markets about the murder. Another murder was the one in 1703 of Lambert Baldewijns. From this murder we have the report of the parishpriest.

An interesting story is the story of the prior of the abbey of West-Vleteren, Dom Dositheus. This man from the village of Hoepertingen seems to have played a large part in the growth of the very well known abbey in West-Vleteren

Vudsels è e koet èn is just something funny where I have tried to write a text representing the dialect of my home village Nieuwerkerken. The source of the text is a joke my late brother Hugo ones told about a lorry who had a hole as a load.

In 'What happened in...' I have put some notes from the diary of schoolteacher De Bruijn from Sint-Truiden in the 18th century next to a date of interest for our families (birth, marriage, death). This chronicle gives a vary nice view of the daily goings on in Sint-Truiden in the first half of the 18th century.

The genealogical researcher is about the problems one has to tackle when researching the history of one or more families. The bottom line is: just don't accept for truth what you can find on a genealogical site.

Since a lot of Kempeneers lived, worked and died in Sint-Truiden I thought it a good idea to map the whereabouts of the different families and their children.
Just take the tour of Sint-Truiden in "Around Sentrui"
